Joe Biden’s lead continues to grow in Pennsylvania.

CNN has yet to project a winner in Pennsylvania. If Biden wins Pennsylvania’s 20 electoral votes, he will reach the 270 needed to win the presidency.

CNN has also yet to project a winner in the key states of Georgia, Nevada and Arizona. Biden is currently leading Trump in these states, but votes are still being counted.

Biden currently holds 253 electoral votes, while Trump has 213.

Ballot counting continued Friday in Gwinnett County, Georgia, where there are roughly 1,500 votes left to tabulate, according to county spokesperson Joe Sorenson.

The Board of Voter Registrations and Elections is scheduled to review the provisional ballots on Nov. 9.

White House chief of staff Mark Meadows has tested positive for coronavirus, two officials confirm to CNN.

Bloomberg first reported the story.

Meadows traveled with the President on Sunday and Monday.He was also at the White House election night party on Tuesday and in close contact with members of the President’s family.

White House officials are now alarmed given Meadows has been around other staffers while potentially contagious, one aide says.The White House had invited people to watch the results roll in that night.

At the time, WhiteHousecommunications director Alyssa Farah said there would be temperature checks and precautions taken given the pandemic. Initial plans to hold aneventat the Trump Hotel were scrapped because of local restrictions on indoor gatherings and fear there would be significant fines.

As Joe Biden’s lead over President Trump continues to grow in states yet to declare a victor, the presidential hopeful said Friday night that while he’s waiting for the final election results, he is “not waiting to get the work done” on important issues facing the country.

“Yesterday, Sen. Harris and I held meetings with groups of experts on public health and the economic crisis this country is facing,” Biden said. “The pandemic, as you also know, is getting more worrisome all across the country. Cases are skyrocketing. It’s believed we could see as many as 200,000 cases a day, and the death toll is approaching 240,000 lives lost. 240,000 empty chairs across America.”

Biden’s speech came as the United States set a new record when it surpassed 125,000 daily coronavirus infections.

“We both know tensions arehigh,” Biden said. “They can be high after a toughelection.One like we’ve had.But we need to remember, we haveto remain calm.Patient.Let the process work out as we count all the votes.”

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden exuded confidence tonight as his campaign inches closer to the White House while votes continue to be tallied in key battleground states.

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden is speaking now from Wilmington, Delaware, as votes continue to be counted and a winner in the presidential race is yet to be called.

Biden noted that he is now leading Trump in Pennsylvania.

A new batch of votes from Allegheny County were counted and released tonight, widening Joe Biden’s lead over President Trump.

Of the 3,212 votes released, Biden received 2,436 votes and President Trump got 733 votes, according to the county’s executive Rich Fitzgerald. Biden now leads Trump by 28,833votes.

Biden holds 49.6% of the vote in the state compared to Trump’s 49.1%.

Why Pennsylvania is key: If Biden wins Pennsylvania’s 20 electoral votes, he will reach the 270 electoral votes needed to win the presidency. CNN is yet to project a winner in the state.

As Pennsylvania continues to count votes, CNN’s Pamela Brown said Friday that there’s approximately 89,00 outstanding ballots and 101,000 provisional ballots left to be counted in the Keystone State.

“A majority of those ballots are coming from blue counties,” Brown said during CNN’s special election coverage. “When you look at Philadelphia, there are around 38,000 outstanding mail-in ballots.That includes 15,000 to 28,000provisional ballots.”

Brown went on to explain that some of the provisional ballots may take a “little bit longer” to process, because “these are ballots that people filled out because they didn’t get their mail-in ballot or there was a problem.”

These are the remaining Pennsylvania counties with outstanding ballots:

“All of these counties have their own pace, own formula, own process for going through the ballots and posting them,” Brown added.

The Allegheny County executive estimates another release of ballots, likely in the range of 10:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. ET.

CNN is told that will be the last release of the night and that staffers will not be counting overnight.

The ballots will be from a batch of court-challenged, misprinted ballots that previously had been set aside for review.

The county has not announced how many votes are expected to be added to the count in this release.

Joe Biden’s running mate Kamala Harris is not expected to speak tonight, a Biden campaign adviser says, but she will appear with the former vice president this evening when he delivers remarks.

Cheers erupted from the group of supporters outside the Chase Center in Wilmington, Delaware, as Harris’ motorcade arrived moments ago.

Democratic hopeful Joe Biden’s lead is growing in the battleground state of Pennsylvania tonight.

A new batch of votes from Allegheny County were counted and released tonight, widening Biden’s lead over President Trump by 27,130votes.

Of the 9,288 votes counted, 7,300 were for Biden and 1,875 were for Trump, Allegheny County executive Rich Fitzgerald said.

There are an estimated 124,500 outstanding ballots in Nevada, according tothe secretary of state’s office.

This number includes 58,000 mail ballots and 66,500 voter registration ballots to be counted — 90% of the ballots to be counted are in Clark County.

This figure does not include provisional ballots or signature cures outstanding.

Remember: CNN is yet to project a winner in Nevada. There are six electoral votes at play in the state. Joe Biden and President Trump each need 270 electoral votes to win the presidency. Biden currently has 253 electoral votes and Trump has 213 electoral votes.

Prior to the election, President Trump’s campaign and Republican National Committee identified lawyers that would be in every state to represent them if need be and the President’s campaign organized a loose coalition that resembled more a show of support than an actual legal operation in motion called “Lawyers for Trump.”

Now lawyers in those states are looking for enough evidence to build cases aiming to cast doubt on the validity of the election outcome.

“We’re not going to shoot from the hip,” one of the sources said, emphasizing they are trying to put together cases that would stand up in court moving forward instead of focusing on one off instances as seen in previous suits that judges have struck down.

Another source familiar with ongoing discussions said there needs to be actual evidence to file a lawsuit and lawyers aren’t going to put their reputations on the line if they don’t have a case that they believe would be unethical to file.

Still, there is a belief among some of the lawyers they have avenues in at least two states with close margins to file voting related lawsuits even as Trump’s lead continues to diminish.

“We’re going to play until the whistle blows,” one lawyer said.

To note: There is no evidence of widespread fraud in the election and counties across the country have streamlined the counting process andjudges in several cases in various states have shot down several of their initial attempts.

The White House public schedule for the weekend shows no public events for the President.

This schedule of course is subject to change on short notice.

While the President has been tweeting, his last public remarks were Thursday evening.

Arizona elections officials continue to count ballots inside the Maricopa County Recorder's Office, Friday, November 6, in Phoenix.

The biggest county in Arizona has released a new batch votes Friday night – shrinking Joe Biden’s lead there.

Updated vote totals released by Maricopa County show Biden with 1,004,003votes and Trump with950,503 there. There’s a 29,861-vote difference between Biden and Trump in the state.

Previously, Maricopa was reporting 972,570 votes for Biden and 912,115 for Trump.

As Nevada continues to count votes and a winner is yet to be projected in the state, CNN’s Sara Sidner interviewed voters in Las Vegas who are waiting in line to resolve ballot issues.

“It is very important that my voice is heard, and my voice is my vote,” said Mary, a Nevada voter who is the last person in a long line of voters who were asked by officials tofix or “cure” their ballots before the 5 p.m. PT deadline.

Sidner went on to speak to another voter who said that many people in line are building a senseof camaraderie while they wait to resolve their ballot issues.

“None of us has asked each other who we’re voting for, or anything like that,” John said. “We’re all down here, want to make our vote count.”

Remember: Joe Biden and President Trump each need 270 electoral votes to win the presidency. Biden currently has 253 electoral votes and Trump has 213 electoral votes. Six electoral votes are at stake in Nevada.

Joe Biden is still likely to speak tonight regardless of whether the race has been called, a person familiar with the plans said, but cautions the situation remains fluid.

If the race is not called by the time he speaks, Biden will talk about his growing lead, a source said.

The campaign earlier in the day said Biden was planning to speak in prime-time.

There was no election briefing from the campaign’s top advisers today. There have been no tweets from Biden or his running mate Kamala Harris.

Georgia’s secretary of state will not release any additional updates again tonight,according to Walter Jones, media consultant with Secretary Brad Raffensperger’s office.

Some context: The most recent data shared by Raffensperger as of 3 p.m. ET today, reportedapproximately 8,400 military and overseas ballots that were still available to be received by the state by 5 p.m. ET Friday.

CNN is yet to project a winner in Georgia. Sixteen electoral votes are at stake in the state.

An Arizona state court judge set a hearing for next Friday in the Trump campaign-backed litigation challenging the use of Sharpie pens to fill out ballots in Arizona’s Maricopa County, the largest county in the battleground state.

The judge wrote in the order that she would hear legal arguments and from witnesses at the Nov. 13 hearing. She denied the Trump campaign’s request to conduct discovery.

Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito’s order for Pennsylvania election officials to put aside late arriving ballots and count them separately is in line with previous guidance from the secretary of state, Republican elections lawyer Benjamin Ginsberg said moments after the ruling tonight.

“I think what Justice Alito’s order does is … preserve the status quo, the way things are now,” said Ginsberg.

The ruling comes in a wake of a filing today from Pennsylvania Republicans who argued in court that that not every county in the state was abiding by the secretary of state’s guidance, which may not be legally binding.

Some officials in Pennsylvania, including the secretary of state, have argued there should be a three-day grace period so that ballots that arrive after Election Day through today, should be included in the final count, as long as they were not postmarked after Election Day, a policy which was approved by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.

Ginsberg said Alito’s order represents a mixed result for Republicans.

“…The ballots are still being counted, so the Republican Party lost its attempt to halt the counting… but this is not an amount that it appears it will impact the election,” he said. “The ballots will be counted, but not included in the counts so … the status quo, all options, will still be on the table with this order.”

Ginsburg pointed out that Alito’s order has no actual bearing on whether those ballots which were received after Election Day may ultimately be a part of the final count, but the order may signal that the Supreme Court would get involved if those ballots became relevant.

It does not say “…whether to count these ballots, or not count the ballots, or to exclude them,” he said.

Justice Samuel Alito has ordered all county boards in Pennsylvania to segregate ballots received after Election Day and said that if the ballots are counted, they be counted separately.

This order is in line with the guidance thatsecretary of state of Pennsylvania had already issued.

“Justice Alito’s order sort of preserves the status quo,” CNN contributor and election law expert Ben Ginsberg said.

Earlier today, Pennsylvania Republicans asked the court to issue the order, suggesting – without evidence —that some counties are not following state guidance.

In court papers,lawyers for the stateGOPsaid that “given the results of the November 3, 2020 general election, the vote in Pennsylvania may well determine the next President of the United States—and it is currently unclear whether all 67 county boards of elections are segregating late-arriving ballots,” the GOP petition said.

Alito suggested some frustration that the secretary of state hadn’t kept the Supreme Court aware of changes in guidance.

Pennsylvania Secretary of StateKathy Boockvar has already ordered any ballots that arrive between Nov. 4 and Nov. 6 be segregated from those that arrived by Election Day, pending ongoing litigation, and Alito’s order puts more force to that order.

Boockvarsaid Thursdaythat there would not be enough ballots to sway the election. Critics of the President and otherRepublicans say he is continuing legal challenges to suggest that the courts could impact election results, even though the numbers so far suggest otherwise.

Joe Biden’s campaign is continuing to watch results coming in tonight, including in Pennsylvania as they hope the state could put them over 270 electoral votes.

As they watched the margins in Georgia and Pennsylvania grow, aides started the day hopeful that today would be the day the race would be called in Biden’s favor, but reality has sunk in for many that that moment is taking a bit longer to come.

The public activity from the campaign today has been night and day compared to that of the previous three days.

There was no election briefing from the campaign’s top advisers today. There have been no tweets from Biden or his running mate Kamala Harris.

Biden last spoke to the American people more than 26 hours ago as he urged calm and patience as the vote count continues.

The campaign earlier in the day said Biden was planning to speak in prime time, but for now as the prime-time hours near we are still waiting to hear if that speech will happen even if the race is not called.

At the Chase Center, staff was doing a run-through with two people standing on stage waving and then one of those people walking behind the podium, making it clear that preparations are still underway here.

A federal judge denied Republican congressional candidates request to stop the counting of mail-in ballots in Clark County, a critical seat in the key battleground state of Nevada, saying they would not succeed on the merits of the case.

After a two-hour hearing, Judge Andrew Gordon said, “The public interest is not in favor of disrupting the completion of the process of the counting of the ballots” that could disenfranchise hundreds if not thousands of mail-in ballots legally cast.

The judge also noted that a similar case that is ongoing in state court is the better venue, noting that questions about the review of signatures on ballots are issues “involving state laws and should be interpreted by state courts, particular Supreme Court justices elected by state of Nevada citizens.”

Philadelphia’s election office is not expected to release more count details on Friday night as the remaining ballots prove more challenging to sort through.

The vote counting process has entered the most labor-intensive phase of the count, slowing the pace, according to a city official.

Philadelphia election officials are now working through what’s left of an estimated 20,000 mail-in ballots that require review for a variety of issues like signature problems or damage. There are also an estimated 15,000-20,000 in-person provisional ballots to go through.The fact all of these ballots require a secondary look and often a vote by a group of three election officials has slowed the counting process considerably.

Some context: The slow pace of this phase is not unique to this election, this phase always takes extra time after Election Day. What is unique is there have never been so many mail-in ballots in the city and throughout the commonwealth.

The mail-in ballot issues that require this additional review include: a voter not writing the date on their ballot, a voter listing their birth date where they should list the current date, a voter not including their address on the ballot or signing the wrong side of the ballot’s envelope.

These ballots are all separated into groups and then reviewed by the trio of election officials who vote on whether or not the ballot is valid.

Provisional ballots always take extra time as the election officials must determine if the person is eligible to vote before it can count.

According to this source, all of these factors together make it difficult to accurately offer an estimate of how long it will take to finish all or part of this count.

CNN is yet to make a projection in Pennsylvania. Neither Joe Biden nor President Trump have received the 270 electoral votes needed to win the presidency.

If Biden wins Pennsylvania’s 20 electoral votes, that would take him over 270. According to CNN’s latest projections, Biden currently has 253 electoral votes to Trump’s 213.

The race remains tight, but Biden continues to grow his lead in Pennsylvania as more mail-in ballots are counted. Biden is currently leading Trump in the Keystone State by more than 19,000 votes.

CNN is also yet to project a winner in 3 other key states — Georgia, Nevada and Arizona.

Georgia’s Gwinnett County expects to upload an additional 538 ballots sometime Friday evening, according to county spokesperson Joe Sorenson.

Right now, 535 of those ballots are provisional ballots that have been cured, and three are from military personnel or residents living overseas, he added.

A total of 1,010 overseas ballots received by deadline were already uploaded at 5 p.m. ET, Sorenson said, adding Gwinnett County has a total of 965 other provisional ballots that are expected to be reviewed Saturday.

Allegheny County executive Rich Fitzgerald just released a batch of 5,345 ballots which included mail-in ballots, some provisional ballots and a couple thousand military ballots which together favored Joe Biden with 4,134 votes to President Trump’s 1,076.

Fitzgerald said he is unsure how many ballots remain to be counted in the county, but cited 29,000 outstanding ballots that were segregated, which were mailed out with printing errors as well as 17,000 provisional ballots and around 1,500 military and overseas ballots.

Fitzgerald said results from the 29,000 ballots with the printing error could emerge in as little as an hour.

There’s a team of dedicated statistical analysts that helps decide when CNN can make a call on election results, CNN’s political director David Chalian explains.

The reason why CNN is not projecting the results in states like Georgia, Pennsylvania, Nevada and Arizona, “it’s because of the math and getting to the highest level of confidence before any projection is made,” Chalian added.

Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs said Friday that there is approximately “235,000 outstanding ballots” statewide with about 135,000 inMaricopa County.

“We’re not sure how many of those are provisionals, but of the regular ballots they anticipate being done this weekend,” Hobbs told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer.

“In Arizona, counties have five business days after the election to resolve provisional ballots,” Hobbs said. “Any of those ballots that are provisional they won’t be able to count until Wednesday. I don’t know how many of the Maricopa ballots are provisional ballots. It’s a small number, I’m sure.”

Remember: CNN is yet to project a winner in Arizona. There are 11 electoral votes at stake in the state. Neither Biden nor Trump have received the 270 electoral votes needed to win the presidency. According to CNN’s latest projections, Biden has 253 electoral votes to Trump’s 213.

Arizona’s Pima County, home of the city of Tuscon, has reported an additional 7,264 ballots in its final update for the day, making a slight dent in former Vice President Joe Biden’s lead in Arizona.

The latest batch included 3,640 votes for President Trump and 3,352 votes for Biden.

Some context: Pima is the second most populous county in Arizona, and leans Democratic. The county still has about 19,000 ballots remaining to process, most of them provisional.

The county’s communications director, Mark Evans, saidthey expect to keep working on the provisional ballots through the weekend. Evans said they won’t process those ballots until they have several thousand ready to report, which could be anywhere from Saturday to Monday.

The control of the Senate will likely come down to two runoff races in Georgia.

CNN has yet to project winners in a couple Senate races, but with Democrats falling short in several contests, their best path to claiming the majority is likely winning the White House and flipping the two Georgia Senate seats.

Runoffs would happen because both Georgia races featured more than two candidates. In the regular Georgia Senate race, Democrat Jon Ossoff and Libertarian Shane Hazel look to be holding GOP Sen. David Perdue under 50% of the vote, although CNN has not projected the race yet. If Perdue does not receive a majority of the vote, the top-two vote-getters – Perdue and Ossoff — will advance to a runoff on Jan. 5.

CNN has already projected a runoff in the special Senate election, where Republican Sen. Kelly Loeffler and Democratic candidate Raphael Warnock, the senior pastor of Atlanta’s Ebenezer Baptist Church, will also face off on Jan. 5. The 20-person race for the special election almost guaranteed that no candidate would receive a majority of the vote.

Late last year, Georgia Republican Gov. Brian Kemp appointed Loeffler to replace Sen. Johnny Isakson, who resigned over health concerns. The winner of the special election will serve until 2022, when Isakson’s term would’ve ended.

Fulton County, Georgia– home to Atlanta and the state’s largest population center —expects to upload approximately 3,612 provisional ballots and 900 ballots received from overseas this evening,Richard Barron, the county’s elections director, said Friday.

Provisional ballots had to be cured by 5 p.m. ET and overseas ballots – from expats and military personnel – had to be postmarked by Election Day and received by 5 p.m. ET Friday in order to be counted.

“Here in Fulton County, the fat lady has almost sung. All early votes have been counted, all day-of votes have been counted, all absentee ballots have been counted,”said Robb Pitts, chairman of the Fulton County Board of Commissioners.

Democratic presidential hopeful Joe Biden’s lead in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, has grown to 555,833 votes, which represents 80.78% of the votes counted thus far, according to data from the city’s election office.

President Trump currently has 125,897 votes, which represents 18.3% of the ballots counted so far.

Provisional ballots are cast when there’s a question about a voter’s eligibility, and are specially held for counting until officials are certain the vote should be accepted. If a voter, for example, forgets their ID at home, or isn’t showing up in the voter rolls, they can cast a provisional ballot.

Under federal law, any US resident should always be able to cast a provisional ballot at a polling place, even if their registration status is not clear. That allows officials to accept the ballot but hold it aside while any questions are worked out.

Once cast, election officials determine whether the voter was eligible to vote. If they were, the vote will be counted just like any other.

Why these ballots take longer to count: Different states handle provisional ballots in different ways.

Generally, though, these ballots are kept separate from all other ballots while they are investigated by election officials and are counted last.

As a result, voters often need to be their own biggest advocate when it comes to provisional ballots — following up with local elected officials to confirm they have looked into their qualifications and have counted their vote.

Pennsylvania attorney general Josh Shapiro speaks with CNN on Friday, November 6.

Pennsylvania’s Democratic attorney general Josh Shapiro addressed questions over outstanding provisional ballots in the states, saying he’s unsure how many there are but that historically they tend to reflect overall results in the state.

As of 5:45 p.m. ET Joe Biden leads President Trump in Pennsylvania 3,315,745 to 3,301,204 with 96% of the vote counted.

“Historically, provisional ballots tend to track the overall vote, because these are ballots that are sort of random throughout the state based on someone who arrived who had a need to fill out a provisional ballot,” said Shapiro.

“Logic dictates that they would tend to follow the voteor of that region or of that state,” he said.

Shapiro said he did not know how many such ballots exist but Republican speaker of thePennsylvaniaHouse of Representatives Bryan Cutler has said there are about 100,000, and CNN has reported there are at least 69,000.

Shapiro reminded the audience that the delay in counting the provisional ballots is due to a state law which did not permit their counting until 5 p.m. ET today. He added that the state will not declare a winner until all of those ballots have been added to the total count.

A Las Vegas voter waiting in line outside of the Clark County Election Center told CNN’s Sara Sidner that she was there to cure her vote.

The voter said she was there to correct her identification. She brought with her three forms of identification, including a passport, registration and an ID.

Clark County requires voters show two forms of identification and a document that proves that the voter lives in the county, Sidner said.

She told Sidner she recently moved to Las Vegas from Texas and found out she needed to correct her identification after being contacted by election officials. “They called … and they paid a well check at my home,” the voter said.

The voter said officials told her they needed to make sure her ID was correct and to also confirm her identify.

She said she voted for Joe Biden because she “believes in him.”

Gwinnett County, Georgia, an Atlanta suburb, has faced a day-long delay in reporting a crucial batch of votes due to a technical problem as the presidential race in the state hangs in the balance.

At around 5 p.m. ET Friday, Gwinnett County was finally able to upload about 4,000 outstanding absentee-by-mail ballots, as well as re-run roughly 460 early voting ballots that had to be transferred from a “bad data card,” Gwinnett County spokesperson Joe Sorensentold CNN.

Originally, the county had hoped to upload these results at 8 a.m. ET; however, there was a technical issue with the Dominion system used to upload to the Georgia Secretary of State’s office, Sorenson said.Gwinnett County says the blame for the delay falls solely on Dominion Voting Systems.

Kay Stimson, vice president of Government Affairs at Dominion Voting Systems, told CNN that the situation in Gwinnett County “does not relate to system software andhas had no impact on the accuracy of vote totals or tabulation.”

Stimson added that “the company regrets the operational delays the issue has caused for the county.”

Once this upload is complete, Gwinnett County says the only ballots remaining will be a currently unknown number of ballots needing cure, provisional ballots waiting for review and any outstanding military/overseas ballots received by today’s 5 p.m. ET deadline.

Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms told CNN’s Erin Burnett that she “absolutely” believes Georgia will flip for Joe Biden.

“This is our year. I’ve known for a while thatGeorgia was trending blue,” she said.

Bottoms noted she knows “it’s going to be a thin margin, but we’re used to close elections.”

Bottoms referenced her own election which had a 132-vote difference with almost 100,000 votes as an example.

When asked about the possibility of a recount, Bottoms expressed confidence in Biden’s chances.

Bottoms also remarked on the historic nature of Biden’s campaign and Kamala Harris potentially becoming the first woman of color to hold the second highest office in the country.

Michigan Republican House Speaker Lee Chatfield announcedFridaythat the legislature’s oversight committees will meet Saturday “to begin an inquiry into the election and counting procedures in our state for this election and future ones.”

Chatfield affirmed,“whoever gets the most votes will win Michigan! Period. End of story. Then we move on,” waving off concerns about electors breaking with the results.

Senate Minority Leader Jim Ananich criticized the decision, calling it a “very sad development.”

“This is a very sad development and it only serves to feed the chaos on which this president thrives,”Ananichsaid in a statement provided to CNN.

Some context: The announcement comes as Trump and the Michigan Republican Party have tried to make claims of fraud in how the election was conducted in Michigan without any success.

The Trump campaign’s lawsuit claiming voter fraud in Michigan has already been thrown out and no new claims with evidence have been brought forward.

There are still approximately 35,000 outstanding mail-in ballots in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, but results could start coming in today, CNN’s Brian Todd reports from an elections returns warehouse in Pittsburgh.

“Some of those were postmarked before Election Day, some were postmarked on Election Day. They’re arriving and they didn’t start counting until after Election Day,” Todd reports.

Inside the election returns warehouse in Pittsburgh, Todd described the vote counting process.

“These are the people doing the most critical work. They’re called the return board,” he explained.

“They’re counting ballots right now. Right now, the ballots that we’re told they’re counting are from military members overseas … who have registered to vote in this county. Earlier, they went through damaged ballots,” Todd said.

He added that the return board members had counted about 3,000 damaged ballots of the 35,000 outstanding ballots. “We’re told they have about 3,500 military and overseas ballots that they’re going through,” Todd also noted.

There are an additional 29,000 other ballots that need to be counted as well, which are being segregated because they had the “wrong information put on them when they were mailed out. That was corrected,” Todd said.

“They were re-mailed out and then people mailed them back, but because of that issue, by court order, they’ve got to be counted starting at 5 p.m. ET today,” Todd explained.

Todd explained that there is an observer watching the voting process from behind.

“Very transparent process,” Todd said, noting that there are cameras mounted in the room and monitors showing the voting process.

Arizona has an estimated 250,000 to 270,000 unaccounted ballots left to count, according to Secretary of State Katie Hobbs.

Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said that the presidential race in the state “remains too close to call” during a news conference Friday.

“The focus for our office and for the county elections officials, for now, remains on making sure that every legal vote is counted and recorded accurately,” he said.

Raffensperger added that out of about the 5 million votes cast, the margin will be within a “few thousand.”

“With a margin that small, therewill be likely a recount inGeorgia,” he said.

Gabriel Sterling, Georgia’s voting system implementation manager, said the number of outstanding votes remains “about the same as they were this morning. Not too much change.”

Sterling said that there were about 4,000 outstanding ballots to be counted across a handful of counties earlier in the day.

Sterling noted that 18,008 ballots from military and other citizens from Georgia who are overseas have been accepted by the state.Approximately 8,410 are “still available to be received” he said, if those ballots were postmarked by Election Day and received by end of business Friday.

“That does not mean that there’s a bucket of 8,410 votes to be counted. That means there are 8,410 votes that could have been postmarked Tuesday and could be received by the elections officials today, so as I said earlier, it’s going to be more than 0 and less than 8,410,” Sterling explained.

Democratic nominee Joe Biden currently leads President Trump in total votes counted to date across Georgia by 1,585 votes, Sterling said.

As vote counting has stretched into the afternoon, Joe Biden and his campaign are closely and patiently watching the results as they hope a state will soon put them over the top.

Biden has spent the day at home with family and senior advisers, sources familiar with his plans say, watching results and getting updates from the campaign.

At the Chase Center in Wilmington, Delaware, top advisers have been seen spotted in the lobby of the hotel and staff has been diligently working throughout the day preparing the site for his expected remarks this evening.

Jeeps and trucks with camping chairs in their beds are positioned in front of the stage where the remarks from Biden and Sen. Kamala Harris are expected to take place.

Lawyers for Pennsylvania Republicans are asking the US Supreme Court to order the state to not take any action on any mail-in ballots received after Election Day, November 3.

The Pennsylvania secretary of state has already ordered any ballots that arrive between Wednesday, November 4, and Friday, November 6, be segregated from those that arrived by Election Day, pending ongoing litigation, and thestateGOP’s request simply asks the court to enforce that action as well asorder that “no action” is taken on the ballots.

Kathy Boockvar, the secretary of state, told CNN’s Jake Tapper on Thursday that there would not be enough ballots to sway the election.

Critics of the President say he is continuing legal challenges to suggest that the courts could impact election results, even though the numbers so far suggest otherwise.

GOP leaders are nervously watching President Trump’s erratic handling of an election that’s slipping away from him, delicately urging him and his team to clearly make a specific case about voting impropriety or accept the will of the American public.

As they watch Trump make one unfounded claim after another, Republicans are worried about the lasting ramifications from the President’s meritless barrage of attacks against a cornerstone of US democracy — especially as they gear up for two months of intense battling over two hugely consequential races in Georgia that will determine the next Senate majority.

But top Republicans are also treading cautiously around a mercurial president who holds enormous sway with their party’s base, with many unwilling to directly challenge his dubious claims and instead are urging him to make his case in greater detail.

GOP sources said Friday that the idea is to give Trump and his team a chance to make their case and allow the disputes to work themselves out in the courts, arguing that if the lawsuits fall flat, then Trump will have little choice but to concede the election without their having to confront him.

Republican leaders are approaching him gingerly. Some, like House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, are publicly defending his claims, while others, like Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, are trying to toe a middle ground.

McConnell, a cautious but deliberate leader, carefully crafted a public message about Trump’s allegations that respects the concerns of the President and his ardent supporters but doesn’t back their nebulous charges of election fraud. On Friday, McConnell refused to say anything else besides his delicately worded statement.

Republicans argue that it’s now up to the President to provide the public with details about claims of widespread voting fraud in several crucial states that have put former Vice President Joe Biden on the cusp of the presidency.

“I think the President should turn this discussion over to his lawyers,” said Senate Rules Chairman Roy Blunt, whose committee oversees elections. “And if they have a case to make, there’s a process where they make that and that processes is timely.”

Since the beginning of the pandemic, supporters of Democratic nominee Joe Biden have shown a strong preference for mail-in voting. Most of President Trump’s supporters said they wanted to vote on Election Day. States count these different types of votes in very different ways.

As a result, in key states where a winner is yet to be called — like Pennsylvania — Biden now has a growing lead over Trump as more ballots are counted.

This isn’t a sign of fraud or irregularities. Rather, it’s just a reflection of how states count votes. Some states processed early ballots first, while others saved them for last.

This phenomenon, known as the “blue shift,” is common in recent US elections and it’s a big reason why Trump, despite election law, has argued that whoever appears to have won on Election Night should be crowned the winner.

That’s not the way it works, of course. Ballots in North Carolina and Pennsylvania can arrive in the days after Election Day as long as they have a November 3 postmark.

In Pennsylvania, election officials couldn’t do anything with early ballots until Election Day. Some counties didn’t even pick them up until the day after Election Day.

A state judge in Pennsylvania has ordered the separation of provisional ballots, to set aside those voters who cast defective absentee ballots used to make sure their vote counted.

It’s unknown at this time how many of Pennsylvania’s provisional ballots this might effect.

The judge signaled there may be additional orders later, and the order sets up the potential for more court fights over the cured votes by provisional ballot.

Votes are still being counted in several key states, and the race for the White House is still too close to call.

Sources close to the White House said some senior officials inside the White House and the campaign are beginning to quietly back away from Trump, in acts of self-preservation, as the returns in Pennsylvania and Georgia indicate the President will not win reelection.

“It’s over,” one key adviser to the administration said of the race.The adviser went on to say there are concerns about what Trump will do, beyond the question of whether he will concede the race.

“God. Who knows,” the adviser said when asked what Trump might do next, conceding there were multiple officials in the campaign and the White House who were shaking their heads after Trump’s litany of false statements Thursday evening in the White House briefing room.

Some in the campaign, the adviser said, questioned the Trump team’s decision to dispatch the likes of Rudy Giuliani and Trump’s sons to make unfounded allegations of voter fraud, arguing that likely diminished the president’s claims of wrongdoing. The adviser said Trump is well within his rights to contest the election results but is going about it in exactly the wrong way.

A separate adviser to the campaign described Trump as increasingly isolated in his claims of a stolen election.“He is mostly alone here,” the adviser said of Trump’s claims of voter fraud.

The sources noted, however, there are still some aides and allies around the president telling him what he wants to hear.That will keep the drama going, the sources added.

One pressure point for Trump is that some in the administration are already beginning to look beyond the 2020 race and toward 2024.One adviser said some inside the administration and the GOP are starting to measure their actions based on ambitions for the next campaign cycle.

More than 63,000 outstanding ballots remain to be counted in Clark County, the home of Las Vegas, the county registrar of voters said at a news conference Friday, a process officials expect to complete by Sunday.

The county is continuing to count its mail-in ballots after it reported the results from about 30,000 ballots earlier Friday, a lower than expected number that boosted former vice president Joe Biden’s lead in the crucial battleground state.

The county now plans to report additional votes from the 63,505 remaining ballots twice a day, starting today at 4 p.m. PT / 7 p.m. ET, until it is complete. He did not know how many additional ballots would be reported later Friday.

Asked by a reporter why the county is not counting as quickly as its capacity allows, Gloria said, “Our priority here is to make sure that we are accurate in what we’re doing. So, we’re not interested in moving as fast as we can. We want to be accurate.”

The county also has on hand 60,000 provisional ballots that must be verified before they can be counted, Gloria said. Another batch of ballots that require identification to be processed must be reconciled by 5 p.m. local time today, he said.

Gloria said he would provide another press conference on Saturday at 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET.

Remember:CNN has not yet projected a winner in Nevada or in the presidential race. Six electoral votes are at stake in that state.

Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney called President Trump’s claims of fraud “baseless.”

“While some, including the President, continue to spew baseless claims offraud…what we have seen here in Philadelphia is democracy plain and simple,” Kenney said at a press conference Friday.

“God willing, we want a peaceful transition of power.” he said.

As for ongoing signs that the President could lose the election, “I think what the President needs to do is frankly put his big boy pants on.”

“He needs to acknowledge that he lost and he needs to congratulate the winner,” Kenny added.

Remember: CNN has not yet projected a winner in Pennsylvania or in the presidential race.

Bob Harvie, commissioner of Bucks County, Pennsylvania, a suburban county north of Philadelphia, said the next vote count update should be in the 2 p.m. ET hour.

He said that outstanding ballots fall into a few categories — there are roughly 7,000 “naked ballots,” while others are being independently verified after getting scanned. Harvie said the county also received some ballots that came in after Election Day.

Remember: The state Supreme Court ruled that ballots postmarked by Election Day, or with ineligible postmarks, that arrive by today at 5 p.m. ET, should be counted.

So-called “naked ballots” are mail-in ballots that come in without a secrecy envelope, a second sleeve that helps prevent poll workers from seeing how someone voted.

“If the ballot comes in not inthe secrecy envelope, we can’t lookat it, we can’t do anything with it.… There’s also a rule inPennsylvania law that states there can’t beidentifying marks on the secrecyenvelope,” Harvie said.

“Stray marks, anything thatdoesn’t identify the voter, doesn’t identify who they’revoting for, those are ones you’re going to have discussions about,” he added.

Sen. Kamala Harris is expected to deliver remarks tonight ahead of Joe Biden’s planned prime-time speech, per a campaign aide.

It will be the first time we hear from the vice presidential hopeful since Election Day.

Philadelphia has about 40,000 ballots left to count, which could take several days to complete, Lisa Deeley, chair of the Philadelphia City Commissioners, said during a press conference Friday.

The ballots fall in three categories, “those that require review, provisionals, US military overseas ballots,” Deeley said.

Philadelphia City Commissioner Omar Sabir urged patience.

“Ignore a lot of the noise that’s going on, allow us to complete the counting process,” Sabir said.

Pennsylvania’s latest update on ballots shows Biden is increasing his lead in the Keystone State.

The latest update on 2,617 votes came from Bucks County, shows Biden picked up 1,732 votes and Trump picked up 853 votes. Biden got 66% of the vote inBucks County in the latestbatch.

“Every time new votes come in,you have to get more,” King said. “Almost every time new votes comein, it is Joe Biden not onlygetting more but gettingtwo-thirds of the votes.”

It’s not a giant lead yet, King explains, but Joe Biden is building a lead as an overall trend, with one tinyexception in one of theRepublican counties to the north of Pennsylvania.

Currently, approximately 20,000 of theoutstanding votes in Pennsylvania are stillin Philadelphia County, where Joe Biden has been getting over 80% of the votes with each batch, King noted, adding that the mail-in ballots are consistently delivering a higher percentage of votes in each batch to Biden.

There are approximately 175,880 absentee ballots left to be counted acrossPennsylvania,according to the election site.

As Biden approaches a margin of 10,000 votes over Trump in Pennsylvania, history shows that once you get to that number, it can be almost “impossible” to overturn in legal challenges or recounts, King added.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi celebrated theelection results that have been tabulated so far on Friday morning, arguing Democrats will have a strong mandate to shape policy with Joe Biden as presidenteven though Democrats lost seats in the House and may not take control of the Senate.

She added that she believes Biden and Democrats in Congress will hopefully “do great things” in the new year.

Her comments came as rank-and-file House Democrats have raised concerns and complained to leadership about the party’s performance onTuesday.

Pelosi and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chair Cheri Bustos said on the morning of Election Day that they expected to grow their majority, perhaps by double digits. Instead, their majority will be smaller in the new Congress after some vulnerable members lost their seats.

But Pelosi projected optimism, saying she views the situation as“a tremendous opportunity.”

“Some members had some concerns about what happened in their district, but most of the people who expressed their concerns won. Most of them won,”shesaid.

She defended the losses, saying Democrats were fighting for seats in Trump districts that they first won in 2018, when he wasn’t on the ballot. She claimed some of those seats were“almost insurmountable” with Trump on the ballot this year.

Asked how she will navigate philosophical differences betweenmembers of a smaller caucus, Pelosi said Democrats have varying views but hold unifying principles, namely“America’s working families.”

“I would say we have a healthy difference of opinion within our caucus, but not in any way to be problematic in how we legislate,” she said.

Republican Sen. Mitt Romney said Friday that President Trump’s comments about a stolen election “damages the cause of freedom here and around the world,” going further than the rest of the Senate GOP conference.

President Trump’s campaign has said Georgia — where Joe Biden is narrowly leading — is “heading for a recount.”

“Georgia is headed for a recount, where we are confident we will find ballots improperly harvested, and where President Trump will ultimately prevail, Trump campaign general counsel Matt Morgan said in the statement.

Remember: There is no automatic recount in Georgia. A candidate has to request a recount after results are certified.

Here’s how that process works:

Earlier this morning, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said the state’s election results are too close to call.

Joe Biden’s lead in Nevada slightly increased with the latest batch of votes coming in from the state.

With 91% of the vote currently reported, Biden is up about 20,000 votes, CNN’s John King said.

“That’s a modest lead, right? But just as in theother states when we get the newvotes, what do we do? We look at the trajectoryof the race,” King said.

In Clark County, a large population area in Nevada, Joe Biden received 19,995 votes in the latest ballot drop, and President Trump received 9,357, King reported. That means Joe Biden received 65% of the votes.

Biden campaign manager Jen O’Malley Dillon anticipated President Trump gaining a bit of ground in Arizona’s Maricopa County, which led her to issue this gentle warning yesterday: “Folks are going to need to stay patient and stay calm.”

They had expected Trump to close the gap in Arizona’s largest county – but they still believe Biden has more support coming in from the 220,000 uncounted votes in the state. They remain confident he will carry the state.

The Biden campaign remains focused on Pennsylvania today. They were hoping Pennsylvania would be called before the Arizona development, an aide said, but they insist it doesn’t change the trajectory of things.

They’re still confident Biden is on the cusp of being declared president.

Maricopa County, Arizona, may be an “opportunity” for Trump in his path to 270 electoral votes, CNN’s John King said as the President continues to chip away at Joe Biden’s lead in the state.

“It’s the flip of what we’ve seenin Georgia and Pennsylvania,” King noted, referencing Biden’s recent leads in those states.

The latest update from the state’s most populated county, which is also home to Phoenix, show that Biden’s lead in the state is shrinking. The Democratic presidential nominee gained 28,285 votes. Trump gained more — 31,716 votes.

“Six in 10 votes in Arizona are cast in Maricopa County,” King said, adding that with each update from the county in the past 24 hours, “the President isconsistently coming out on top.”

Trump won Maricopa County in 2016 and while the suburban shift has been helping Biden across America, King noted that Maricopa County is not a “blowout Democratic county” like Philadelphia is.

After this update, Maricopa County still has about 140,000 ballots to count. In total, Arizona still has about 220,000 statewide ballots to report, CNN’s Kyung Lah reports.

With a fresh batch of votes coming in from Pennsylvania, Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden has grown his lead in the critical Keystone State.

“It’s is now up to 6,737 votes ahead of[President] Trump,” reported CNN’s Wolf Blitzer.

The latest collection of ballots arrived from Bucks County, an area just north of Philadelphia. With CNN’s John King scribbling by hand on the Magic Wall, Blitzer offered the newest figures.

“Biden got 2,016 [votes.] Trump got 897 [votes,]. In other words, Biden got 68% … that’s why his lead has increased, over Trump, in Pennsylvania.”

Though still a Democratic region, Bucks County has been competitive for Republicans, with Biden earning 51% of the vote in the county overall. However, among mail-in ballots in Bucks County — the largest remaining swath still to be tabulated — Biden is now bringing in votes at a rate of more than two-to-one.

Biden currently holds a 253-to-213 overall electoral vote lead. Carrying 20 electoral votes, Pennsylvania would put the former vice president over the top, giving him 273 electoral votes in total, and cementing his presidential victory.

With 95% of the vote having been counted, and the bulk of the outstanding ballots largely tied to Democratic regions, King said, “The math here, is beginning to look inevitable.”

The US Postal Service processed thousands of ballots in the key battleground states of Pennsylvania and Nevada on Thursday, court filings show.

In Pennsylvania:2,927 ballots were processed in Pennsylvania facilities on Thursday, according to data submitted Friday in federal court filings.If the ballots were properly postmarked by Election Day and delivered by today, they could count.

Joe Biden has a long list of calls to make – and to field – today. But one of the most important conversations he will potentially have is with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell

The two men have not spoken yet – a Biden aide said that would be premature and it hasn’t happened – but they expect that call to be made later today or soon, depending on the timing of the race being called.

And look for Biden to reach out to McConnell, who will likely play a key role in approving members of Biden’s possible cabinet if Republicans continue to hold their majority, which even Democrats concede is likely.

For all the talk about when Biden and President Trump will speak – Biden will not initiate that call, an aide says – he will reach out to McConnell when the time is right to begin those conversations.

Biden and McConnell have a long relationship, serving together in the Senate for decades, but also working closely and cutting deals during the Obama administration.

For McConnell’s part, he intends to take a remarkably cautious approach to Biden – given the sensitivity surrounding President Trump’s expected refusal to concede – but a person close to him said he will speak to Biden when the time is right and will be eager to do so.

Clarification: An earlier post quoted aMcConnell advisersaying a call between Biden and the Senate Majority Leader may occur after a projected win.A McConnell aide tells CNN they have no information on the timing.

The Trump campaign released a statement Friday morning making clear they will contest the election, calling any projections of Joe Biden as the winner “false” and the race “far from final.”

“This election is not over. The false projection of Joe Biden as the winner is based on results in four states that are far from final,” Trump campaign general counsel Matt Morgan said in a statement.

Remember: CNN has not yet projected a winner in the presidential election. Joe Biden currently has 253 electoral votes, while Trump has 213. It takes 270 electoral votes to win.

Morgan’s statement continued:

The statement makes clear, as CNN has reported, the President has no intention of conceding as of now.

“Biden is relying on these states for his phony claim on the White House, but once the election is final, President Trump will be re-elected,” Morgan concluded.

A republican lawyer in Pennsylvania, who is not part of the Trump legal team but is familiar with election challenges, says legal challenges in the commonwealth get Trump nowhere.

And even a Hail Mary scenario – where a Republican-led legislature would say there is too much chaos and decide the elector – now has been publicly dismissed by top leaders in Pennsylvania.

“The Pennsylvania General Assembly does not have, and will not have, a hand in choosing the state’s presidential electors or in deciding the outcome of the presidential election,” Pennsylvania State Senator Jake Corman, a Republican, said in anop-ed.

The lawyer notes that Republicans in the Georgia and Florida legislature would push back hard on such a radical scenario trying to override a popular vote. That would be a potential way for them to lose their majorities down the road. And a lawyer for the Wisconsin legislature already told the Supreme Court how effective the electoral administration was.

“It’s not going to happen,” the lawyer said about future challenges. “The next 48 hours will bring that clarity.”

Presidential candidate and former vice president Joe Biden has taken the lead in the critical state of Pennsylvania. With an estimated 95% of the Keystone State votes having been tabulated, Biden is closing in on collecting Pennsylvania, and thus, the presidency.

“What our decision desk isnow doing,” explained CNN’s David Chalian, “is calculating whatdo we know about the outstandingvote in Pennsylvania, what do weknow about the rate it’s beencoming in.”

The bulk of the remaining ballots in Pennsylvania will come from Philadelphia and the surrounding areas, a segment that has overwhelmingly come in for Biden to this point.

“Look what just happened inPhiladelphia,” said Chalian, of Biden’s continued success in the state’s largest city. “He got 87% of them.We know … there’s still a bunch ofvote in Philadelphia to count. When that kind of Bidenadvantage vote, gets put into thevote totals, it just boosts thatlevel of confidence that thiswill be potentially out of reachfor Donald Trump.”

Currently, Biden maintains a 253-213 electoral vote lead over the President. As votes continue to trickle in from the Philadelphia area, the Keystone State’s native son is inching closer to the White House.

The commonwealth of Pennsylvania carries 20 electoral votes, a bank that would get Biden past the coveted 270, the amount needed the clinch the presidency.

“We will await more vote to comeinto Pennsylvania, as we continueto make those calculations,” Chalian reminded viewers.

Republican Sen. Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania said President Trump’s speech Thursday night was “very hard to watch” and that his claims of voter fraud are “not substantiated.”

Toomey acknowledged there are “irregularities in every election,” but they “tend to typically be very small and involve just a handful of ballots.”

“But is there any evidence that I’m aware of that there’s significant, large-scale fraud or malfeasance anywhere in Pennsylvania? Absolutely not,” he added.

Asked if he thinks more Republicans should speak out against the President’s claims, Toomey said, “My colleagues will make their own decisions.”

Remember: CNN has not projected a winner in Pennsylvania, which is a key state Trump cannot afford to lose for a path to victory. Moments ago, Biden took the lead in Pennsylvania, but election officials are still counting mail-in ballots, which are allowed to be received and tallied up until Friday.

Toomey told NBC that counting the “massive quality” of mail-in ballots is taking a long time because the state wasn’t allowed to count them until Election Day, and it’s a labor-intensive process.

Toomey argued that the “President still has a very narrow path by which he can win” in Pennsylvania.

Joe Biden is poised to deliver an address to the nation today or tonight.

The timing is outside his immediate control, aides point out, but that may not be the most important task on his agenda today.

If he is declared the winner early today, the Biden team plans to move quickly to announce more substantial pieces of his transition. There are no plans to wait for any of the legal challenges, a person familiar with the plan said. Biden intends to immediately shift into the mode of president-elect to avoid ceding any momentum, they added.

The Biden transition team has been working behind-the-scenes for months – as required of all candidates seeking the presidency – but the urgency of the plan is being seen by Biden advisers as even more importance in the wake of President Trump questioning the legitimacy of the election.

If the call is made early, look for a speech today from the former vice president – but that won’t be all. Other announcements are ready to go to occupy the forthcoming role as president-elect.

The stage is still set in Wilmington, with fireworks still waiting if the speech happens tonight, but advisers to Biden know the real fireworks are waiting in Washington.

New restricted “national defense airspace” has been put in place over Democratic nominee Joe Biden’s home in Wilmington, Delaware.

The Federal Aviation Administration posted the Temporary Flight Restriction on Wednesday, the day after the general election. An FAA notice to pilots available online shows the one mile radius no-fly zone is now active until next Wednesday morning.

The FAA says airspace has also been temporarily restricted over the nearby Chase Center, where the stage is set for a possible Biden victory speech – should he ultimately win the presidential election.

Flight restrictions of this kind are standard security protocol for a major party’s nominee for president. A sitting President typically gets a 30-mile ring of roving restricted airspace for any travel away from the nation’s capital.

More US Secret Service agents have also been sent to Wilmington, Delaware, in anticipation of a potential Joe Biden presidential win, CNN has learned.

The extra Secret Service agents were sent to Delaware on Thursday, two sources said, with one law enforcement source telling CNN, “This was anticipated.”

Joe Biden has taken the lead in Pennsylvania over President Trump, a “dramatic and potentiallydecisive” development, CNN’s John King said.

In the latest update, Biden got 27,396 votes, while Trump got 3,760 votes.Of the 31,412 votes that werejust tallied, 87% of that vote came in forBiden. He has nowtaken the lead in Pennsylvaniaby 5,587 votes.

Overall in the state, Biden has 3,295,304 votes, 49.4% of the total — while Trump has 3,289,717 votes,or 49.3%.

More US Secret Service agents have been sent to Wilmington, Delaware, in anticipation of a potential Joe Biden presidential win, CNN has learned.

The extra Secret Service agents were sent to Delaware Thursday, two sources said, with one law enforcement source telling CNN, “This was anticipated.”

Some context: Upon a presidential win, the USSS detail for a president-elect would get larger and mirror the size and scope of a president’s. Additional airspace security measures are also implemented, a source familiar with USSS protocols said. A team for Biden has been on standby since last week, the source said.

OnWednesday, CNN observed additional security assets in Biden’s motorcade consistent with Presidentialentouragesthat areequipped to handle a wide variety of threats and situations and arenot part of the typical secret service teams a candidate receives, in addition to Biden’s original detail.

A USSS spokesperson declined to provide additional details, telling CNN, “For operational security reasons, the Secret Service cannot discuss specifically or in general terms the means, methods or resources we utilize to carry out our protective mission.”

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell tweeted Friday:

McConnell’s tweet marks his first public comment since President Trump’s remarks in the White House yesterday, in which he claimed, without evidence, that there was widespread voter fraud.

There have been no legitimate allegations of widespread voter fraud in this race.

“Here’s how this must work in our great country: Every legal vote should be counted. Any illegally-submitted ballots must not. All sides must get to observe the process. And the courts are here to apply the laws & resolve disputes. That’s how Americans’ votes decide the result,” McConnell tweeted.

Gwinnett County spokesman Joe Sorenson said the county has finished counting more than 4,000 absentee ballots. He said they will key in those results starting at 8 a.m. ET.

Sorenson said the only thing they have left to count are provisional ballots and any ballots that they have to adjudicate.

Gwinnett County is northeast of Atlanta and is the second most populous county in the state.

Joe Biden has taken a narrow lead in Georgia with 99% of the state vote count reported. The state has 16 electoral votes.

Currently, Joe Biden is only behind President Trump by a little more than 18,000 votes in the Keystone State after having trailed, at one point, by more than half a million ballots in the hours after polls closed.

Pennsylvania is one of several states where the race is still too close for CNN to make a projection.

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie called on President Trump to provide evidence for his claims in the White House briefing room, which, he said, “inflame without informing.”

Christie is an ABC contributor.

Trump has not shown evidence to back up his claims of election fraud, which have so far been completely unsubstantiated.

“We heard nothing today about any evidence. I want to know what backs up what he said, so that I can analyze it. And let me tell you, if he’s right I’ll be outraged, I’m sure you would be, too,” Christie said.

He continued,

President Trump’s campaign attorneys worked into the night attempting to justify the President’s baseless claims of widespread electoral fraud as Joe Biden edged into the lead.

In what may be a sign of how the campaign is viewing what could be its final hours, a source said they set up a hotline to take incoming calls about alleged voter fraud. They even set up an entire room at their headquarters in Arlington dedicated to the hotline.

Despite the president’s insistence, there have been no legitimate allegations of widespread voter fraud in this race.

Trump has framed the vote counting process as a conspiracy to steal the election from him — and the hotline is further evidence of how his staff is trying to justify his claims after the fact.

CNN’s John King said neither Joe Biden nor President Trump flipped supporters in Pennsylvania since the 2016 election – instead, each campaign was able to rally more voters to the polls.

“If you look at this state,not a lot changed from fouryears ago; people just turnedout more votes,” King said.

King said that there’s no evidence that Biden was able to switch a lot of Trump voters to cast their ballot for him, even as the former vice president played up his Scranton roots to working-class voters during the campaign.

“Actually, there’s evidence thatthe President turned out morevoters,” King said.

“This was a bigturnout election in battlegroundPennsylvania, which we knewcould be the decisive state inthis election.Both campaigns poured tons ofresources in it.Both campaigns spent the finalhours of the campaign focusingon this state.They both turned out morevoters,” King added.

Joe Biden is waking up today on the cusp of realizing a quest he started more than three decades ago: Winning the presidency.

But it also comes with a stark reality. If he wins, he will have to fight for the legitimacy of his own victory.

Even as the votes are still being counted in Pennsylvania, his native commonwealth that could put him over the top, his advisers have mounted an aggressive behind-the-scenes push to get his supporters – and, even more importantly, Republicans to help validate the sanctity of the election.

The Biden campaign took note of President Trump’s dire tone in the White House last night and began a plan that is underway today to get his old allies in the Senate – and others from a lifetime in public life – to speak to the legitimacy of the election.

In Wilmington, Delaware, with the sun already rising in the morning sky, the stage is still waiting for Biden. He will address the country at some point, but aides said the timing is out of their hands.

Early this morning, Democratic nominee Joe Biden took the lead in Georgia, where 99% of the state vote count has been reported.

Meanwhile, in Pennsylvania, Biden is only behind President Trump by a little more than 18,000 votes in the Keystone State after having trailed at one point by more than half a million ballots in the hours after polls closed. Tens of thousands of votes — most of them from strongly Democratic areas, including around Philadelphia — remain to be counted.

Here’s why this matters: Trump cannot find a route to 270 electoral votes without Georgia’s 16 electoral votes and Pennsylvania’s 20 electoral votes, so his chances of securing reelection will hinge on developments in the two states.

Right now, Biden has 253 electoral votes. If he wins Pennsylvania, he’s over the 270 electoral vote threshold. If he wins Georgia, he’s at 269.

And remember: Four more states — Alaska, Arizona, Nevada and North Carolina – are still yet to be projected. Trump has leads in Alaska and North Carolina, while Biden has leads in Arizona and Nevada.

For Joe Biden, Pennsylvania is personal.

His hometown of Scranton plays a central role in his identity as “Scranton Joe.” It was central to his Scranton versus Park Avenue messaging he used in his pitch to working class voters, particularly in Pennsylvaniaand the uppermidwest.

The Biden campaign expects to win Pennsylvania by a “sizable” margin when all the votes are counted.

If that comes tofruition, it would be the payoff for Biden’s many trips to the Keystone State during his campaign, which he kicked off and closed in Pennsylvania.

Biden spent Sunday, Monday and Election Day almost exclusively in Pennsylvania. On Election Day, Biden’s stops took a nostalgic turn, as he dropped by his boyhood home in Scranton as well as other favorite places in his hometown.

As of now, Biden is only behind Trump by a little more than 18,000 votes in the Keystone State, after having trailed at one point by more than half a million ballots in the hours after polls closed. Philadelphia City Commissioner Al Schmidt told CNN that there will be a vote count update in “the next hour or two.”

The state has 20 electoral college votes. If Biden wins Pennsylvania, he would win the presidency.

It’s the third day after the election, and CNN has not yet projected a winner in the presidential race.

There are six states that are still too close to call: Alaska, Arizona, Georgia, Nevada, North Carolina and Pennsylvania. Workers in these states continue to count ballots.

With about 95% of its votes reported, Pennsylvania is still counting ballots.

In Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania’s largest county, about50,000 votes mail-in votes are stillto be counted, according to Philadelphia City Commissioner Al Schmidt.

It would not besurprising if counting wrapped up in the county “atsome point today,if not even this morning,” Bolduan said. “One personinvolved that we’ve spoken withquite a bit said, as of lastnight, they’re calling it afull-court press to get thisdone.”

In Bucks County, the most competitive ofthe suburban counties outside ofPhiladelphia, the race has been tight with about 95% of votes reported.

“A note from a Bucks Countyofficial yesterday was thatthey’ve been tracking themail-in ballots that are comingin.They have trended to be about77% for Joe Biden,” Bolduan added.

The race for the White House remains razor thin as election workers in key states continue to plow through ballots.

In addition to Arizona,Georgia,Nevada, andPennsylvania, the races in Alaska and North Carolina remain too close to call.

Here’s why it’s taking so long: The coronavirus pandemic fundamentally altered the math on how people cast votes. Whereas roughly 46 million people had voted earlier in 2016, more than 100 million did so in 2020 – a stunning increase driven by concerns about Covid-19 and a series of state law changes designed to make it easier to vote early, whether in person or by mail.

Particularly in our urban cores where millions upon millions of votes were cast and need to be counted, the sea change in how America votes ensured that the tabulation process was going to be both slower than in recent elections and slower than any of us would like.

When you double the number of early votes and keep the same rules in place about when and how they will be counted (and the same or fewer number of election officials to count them), what we are seeing right now is to be expected.

Philadelphia City Commissioner Al Schmidt said that there will be a vote count update in “the next hour or two.”

“We have been counting forthe past several hours.And I expect you’ll see anotherupdate in the next hour or two,” he told CNN’s Don Lemon.

The next update will not be the total 50,000 ballots, Schmidt said, adding that “it’s important that we all dothis in the right way and that wereport information until theofficial channels like we alwaysdo.”

Schmidt also said that election observers have been watching the vote count process “the entire time.”

The global stocks rally is running out of steam as investors await election results from US states that remain too close to call.

US futures moved sharply lower after stocks ended Thursday in the green.

The US dollar was weaker as traders bet on more stimulus from the Federal Reserve in the absence of large-scale financial support from the government.

Where the vote stands this morning: Vote counts continue to roll in from six states that CNN has yet to call. President Trump’s lead has narrowed in the key state of Pennsylvania, and Joe Biden has taken a small lead in Georgia. Trump’s campaign has also launched a series of lawsuits in key battleground states.

Trump publicly addressed the close race for the White House on Thursday. During his remarks, Trump baselessly claimed the presidency was being stolen from underneath him as vote counts showed his path to victory disappearing.

“The final outcome may be subject to the US courts but the market is taking its lead from what looks like a Democrat in the White House who presides over a divided government,” Kerry Craig, global market strategist at JP Morgan Asset Management, wrote in a research note Friday. He added that the state of the race “suggests that we are likely to see more compromise.”

“The market has concluded that gridlock is a friendly outcome,” said Stephen Innes, chief global markets strategist at Axi. A divided government suggests less growth and stimulus, but also less tax and regulation, Innes wrote in a note to clients.

Craig said markets’ attention will soon turn to the rising number of Covid-19 cases in the United States, and the fiscal support that is needed to help Americans hit by the pandemic

Another 751,000 Americans claimed first-time jobless benefits last week, the Labor Department reported Thursday. That’s down slightly from the prior week, though it was a less encouraging report than economists had expected.

On Friday, the US Department of Labor is set to release the US jobs report for October.

Many Democrats feel Stacey Abrams deserves a lot of credit for Joe Biden’s performance in Georgia, where he has taken a lead this morning, CNN’s Jason Carroll reports.

The Biden campaign had made it clear that their data showed they could win Georgia as part of their possible path to 270 electoral votes. Itdispatched its top surrogatesto the state, including former President Barack Obama.

However, for years, Abramshas been claiming the state can be a battleground and that it has the potential to go blue. After her failed bid for governor in 2018, she formed a nonprofit with the purpose of fighting voter suppression and increasing voter registration in communities of color. Democrats are crediting her efforts on the ground for the results thus far in the state.

It’s 5:30 a.m. ET on the East Coast, and moments ago, Democratic hopeful Joe Biden took the lead in Georgia over President Trump.

CNN has not made a projection in several key states, and neither Biden nor Trump have received the 270 electoral votes needed to win.

CNN projects Trump will win Montana, Texas, Iowa, Idaho, Ohio, Mississippi, Wyoming, Missouri, Kansas, Utah, Louisiana, Alabama, South Carolina, North Dakota, South Dakota, Arkansas, Indiana, Oklahoma, Kentucky, West Virginia, Florida and Tennessee and four of Nebraska’s five electoral votes.

Reminder: Each candidate needs 270 electoral college votesto win the presidency.

It is how the people of this nation express their will,” he said, calling for calm and patience as the vote counting process unfolds.
